Meet Kiva

SPECIAL NEEDS:  In Shelter Las Cruses, NM

Kiva is an 8-year-old, 114-pound Great Dane who’s been through a lot lately and is in search of a quiet and loving foster home where she can feel safe and secure. Her previous owners, concerned about some recent behavior changes, made the difficult decision to surrender her, hoping she could find a home better suited to her needs as she ages. Like all shelter pups, our information on Kiva is limited. 

Kiva is a quiet and reserved lady who prefers the calm and comfort of her own space. She’s crate trained and walks well on a leash, making her a well-mannered companion. However, Kiva has become more withdrawn lately, showing less interest in play and choosing to keep to herself. Shelter life is stressful and this girl would love a home to call her own! She’s not the playful pup she once was, but she still has plenty of love to give to the right person. 

While Kiva previously lived with three young children under the age of 10, her recent behavior indicates that she’s no longer comfortable around them. Because of this, Kiva would do best in a quiet home without young children where she can relax without the hustle and bustle of a busy household.

Kiva’s history with other dogs is unknown, so a slow and careful introduction would be necessary if you have other pets. She’s also afraid of loud noises like fireworks and thunder, so a calm environment is essential for her well-being.

Kiva may be a bit withdrawn right now, but with a patient and understanding foster family, she has the potential to come out of her shell and find comfort in a loving home. If you have a peaceful space and a gentle heart, Kiva could be the perfect companion for you.
