Jack is a gentle, goofy, and incredibly loving Great Dane who wants nothing more than to be near his person—at all times. He’s a true Velcro dog who thrives on companionship and connection. Whether you’re working at your desk or relaxing on the couch (which he may try to sneak onto), Jack will be right there beside you, soaking in your presence and maybe sneaking in a few licks while he’s at it. 💕
✨ What Makes Jack So Special:
-
A Total Lovebug: 💖 Jack is affectionate and extremely people-oriented. He rolls over for tummy rubs without hesitation and leans into you to show his love. He’ll even “help” you cook—by standing right next to the action (but no counter-surfing if he knows you’re watching).
-
Quiet Companion: 🤫 Jack isn’t a big barker, but he has a deep, booming voice he’ll use to alert you to strangers—perfect for his part-time job as neighborhood watch. He prefers to grunt or murmur when someone walks by the window.
-
Chill & Playful: 😴🎾 He has a lazy side and can nap for hours beside you, but when it’s time to play, he loves a good game of fetch and chasing after toys in the backyard. He once stood a bone on end and just admired it—he’s got quirky charm for days!
-
Smart & Eager to Please: 🧠 Jack knows basic commands like sit, down, stay, come, and off—and he’s a great listener. He’s very trainable and tuned into his person’s tone and energy.
🐕 Behavior & Training:
-
Housetrained and trustworthy with free roam—no accidents indoors. 🚽
-
Walks well on leash with a gentle leader. Stops and sits at intersections, pulls only occasionally. 🚶♂️
-
Not destructive but has a mischievous side—he may sneak a shoe or TP roll just to show it off. He’s chewed one shoe slightly but is otherwise well-mannered when alone. 👟
-
Sensitive to noise and sudden movement—startles easily and benefits from a calm, predictable environment. 🌿
-
Loves watching the world go by from a window and will give a grunt or low bark at squirrels or strangers. 👀
🚫 What Jack Needs in a Home:
-
No small children. Jack has shown reactivity toward children due to fear. He had a fearful reaction toward his foster’s son early on, with a quick snap, and also barked at a visiting child. He’s making progress but needs a child-free or very dog-savvy home with older teens. 👶🚫
-
Slow introductions to new people. He’s shy with strangers and needs calm, controlled intros to feel safe. 👋
-
Unknown with cats, though he has prey drive (he’ll chase squirrels). 🐱❓
-
Potential with other dogs: Jack played well with a female boxer in his previous home—lots of mouthy, high-energy play—but hasn’t met other dogs on leash yet. He may be able to live with a compatible, submissive dog with careful, slow introductions. 🐕
-
Loves routine and structure. He’s doing great with one walk per day and short yard play sessions, and seems more settled with consistent activity. 🏃♂️
🚗 Home Alone Status: Jack is calm when left alone. His foster has monitored him with cameras and he doesn’t pace, whine, or bark. He does like to sneak shoes and might hop on the couch if you’re not around—but he’s learning! 🛋️
🏡 The Ideal Home: Jack will thrive in a quiet, adult-only home with a yard to run, a person who works from home or has a flexible schedule, and a calm, loving environment. He bonds deeply and wants to be near his person more than anything else. He’s not high-energy but needs exercise, enrichment, gentle guidance, and positive reinforcement to keep thriving. 🌱
