Special Needs: Giant Breed experience required
Loki was recently saved from a breeder where he lived outdoors and was used as a stud. (We believe Loki may have Mastiff / Dane).
A guardian human angel rescued Loki and brought her into her home where he is temporarily living with 7 special needs dogs. This amazing person has had Loki neutered and brought up to date on shots. She has reached out to Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue to find a foster or foster-to-adopt home for sweet Loki.
Loki has started house training and is staying indoors while he recovers from his neuter. He a smart and learning new commands. So far Loki has picked up on “sit” lay”. Pretty impressive in such a short amount of time! He is thriving with the attention.
Loki is described as playful, friendly, a clown and still has happy puppy in him. He has good, moderate energy. Prior to his surrender, he lived in a home with 4 children where it was reported he got along well with the kiddos.
The ideal home for Loki: A Giant Breed experienced home to show Loki what the Great Dane good life looks like! Someone who will be patient and continue to work on all aspects of training, including walking on a leash and other day to day “Daning” indoors. Loki is a fast learner and has a wonderful temperament. We believe in the right home with lots of love, this big boy will thrive! Thank you to Loki’s guardian angel, he is one step closer to living an amazing life – was Loki meant to find you?

Loki Update – 10/19/24
Loki has been adjusting beautifully with his foster family, and we’ve discovered a lot about this playful, loyal, and affectionate Great Dane! This sweet boy went from being a backyard breeder to an amazing family pet! Here’s what life looks like for Loki these days and what he’ll need in a forever home:
Personality & Temperament
-
Affectionate Velcro Dog: Loki thrives on companionship and loves to be as close as possible to his people. He’s often found curled up on the couch, sometimes with his head in your lap or his paw gently resting on your shoulder.
-
Playful Clown: This goofy guy has a nightly case of the zoomies! He’ll joyfully run from room to room, occasionally using the couch as his springboard, showing off his playful side.
-
Gentle with Kids: Loki is incredibly sweet with children, though he occasionally forgets his size. He’s very gentle, yet his enthusiasm can make him a bit clumsy around little ones.
Skills & Training
-
Leash Manners: Loki is learning quickly and does well on a gentle leader. He’s attentive, walking close to his handler, though he’s still working on not pulling toward home.
-
Commands: Loki knows basic commands like “sit,” “down,” and “off” and is eager to learn more, especially when treats are involved.
Areas of Focus
-
Separation & Crate Training: Loki’s biggest challenge is managing his separation anxiety. While he’s been left to roam freely for up to 30 minutes, he tends to bark, whine, and scratch at the door. Crate training has also been difficult; despite exercise, toys, and anxiety aids, he becomes anxious. Loki will need a patient family committed to gradually helping him feel more secure when left alone.
-
Noise Sensitivity: Sudden or loud noises still startle Loki, although he’s slowly becoming more comfortable with his surroundings.
