🐾 Meet Sammie: A Loving Soul Looking for a Foster Home 🏡

Sammie is a 4-year-old brindle Great Dane with a heart full of love and a spirit that’s both playful and independent. After spending much of her life in the quiet countryside, she’s now looking for a foster home where she can feel safe, loved, and understood.

A Unique Blend of Playfulness and Calm

Sammie is the perfect companion. She loves playing frisbee, fetch, and solving dog puzzles. While she enjoys playtime, she’s a gentle girl who doesn’t use her teeth or claws when interacting with people. She thrives in a structured environment with a consistent routine and a family that understands her need for both activity and quiet moments.

Loyal and Loving, But a Bit Shy

Sammie is deeply affectionate with her family, earning her the title of a “Velcro dog”—she just wants to be near her people. She enjoys human companionship and will eagerly learn new tricks for treats, showing off commands like sit, come, down, heel, high-five, and even “please” (where she gently places her paw on your thigh).

However, she can be shy around strangers and needs time to warm up to new people. With patience and positive reinforcement, she blossoms into a loving and devoted companion. She is particularly sensitive to loud noises and quick movements, so a calm environment would be ideal.

Social Skills & Home Needs

Sammie has lived with other large dogs and enjoys their company, preferring playmates who are confident but not overly dominant. She has had limited exposure to children but has done well in her interactions with visiting kids. While she has lived with cats, she has a high prey drive and tends to stress them out, so a cat-free home is best.

She is house-trained and reliably uses puppy pads when not taken outside. However, she still needs consistency in her outdoor potty routine. Since she doesn’t signal when she needs to go out, a structured schedule or access to a doggy door would help her succeed.

Leash Manners & Outdoor Time

Sammie walks well on a leash with a pinch collar and knows basic commands, but she can be reactive to strangers and unleashed dogs. Since a past attack by another dog, she’s been more cautious, especially when she senses anxiety from her handler. Continued confidence-building and leash training will help her feel more at ease on walks.

In her previous home, Sammie always had a large fenced yard or acreage, so she would thrive in a home where she has space to move freely. She enjoys exploring, sunbathing, and playing in the yard but needs a secure barrier to keep her safe, as she has a tendency to wander.

The Perfect Foster Home for Sammie

Sammie needs a foster home that can provide:
A fenced yard to explore safely.
A patient and loving caretaker who will help her adjust.
A calm household without too much noise or chaos.
A consistent training routine to boost her confidence and reinforce her outdoor potty habits.
No small animals, as her prey drive can be strong.

Though she may take some time to settle in, Sammie is an incredibly loyal, affectionate, and intelligent dog who just wants to be part of a loving home. She is eager to bond with someone who will give her the time, structure, and care she needs to thrive.

If you’re ready to open your heart and home to Sammie, she’ll reward you with endless love, companionship, and some seriously impressive frisbee skills!
