Loki Update – 12/14/24
Over the past few months, Loki has been thriving in his foster home, and we couldn’t wait to share an update on this sweet, lovable pup! If you’re looking for a new best friend, Loki might just be your perfect match!
Life with Loki
Loki is the epitome of a “gentle giant.” He adores being near his people and, true to his Great Dane nature, is a total “Velcro dog.” Whether lounging on the couch or snoozing at your feet, he’ll happily stick by your side all day as long as he gets his morning walk.
He’s the kind of dog who knows how to make himself at home. In his foster family’s house, he’s been allowed on the couch and bed (and oh, does he love a good couch cuddle). If you’d prefer to keep your furniture fur-free, he’s smart and trainable enough to adjust to new rules.
When he’s not curled up in the living room, Loki enjoys running around in the yard. Watching this giant dog zoom with surprising agility is a sight to behold! But don’t worry—he doesn’t need hours of exercise. A couple of short walks and some playtime are enough to keep him happy.
Manners and Personality
Loki is a dream when it comes to manners. He’s leash-trained, knows “sit” and “down,” and never jumps or begs for attention. He’s also house-trained to perfection—he gets his business done within seconds of being let outside (a lifesaver on cold mornings!).
Despite his size, Loki is remarkably gentle. He never tries to steal food, although his height makes it tempting for him to rest his head on the table. Around visitors, he’s calm and welcoming, enjoying pets and scratches without being pushy. He’s even been living peacefully with a 60-lb black lab in his foster home. While they don’t interact much, they share space beautifully and go on daily walks together.
Loki does have one area he’s working on: separation anxiety. He loves his humans so much that he gets anxious when left alone. His foster family has been helping him learn to stay calm, and he’s making progress. With patience, love, and time, we’re confident Loki will continue to improve in this area.
What Makes Loki Special
Loki’s love of car rides is one of his standout qualities. He’ll hop into the car, lie down as soon as the engine starts, and stay completely quiet until you’ve reached your destination. This makes him the perfect road trip companion or errand buddy.
He’s also wonderful with guests. His foster family hosts regular game nights, and Loki is a charming addition to the group. He’ll hang out near the table for some pets, then settle down quietly to nap for the rest of the evening.
Who Would Be Loki’s Perfect Match?
Loki is looking for a family that will embrace his affectionate, easygoing nature while giving him the support he needs to feel secure. His ideal home would have:
-
Plenty of human interaction: He thrives in a household with multiple people who can keep him company and limit alone time, especially as he continues to work on his separation anxiety.
-
A love for morning walks: Loki’s happy place is trotting calmly beside you on a leash.
-
Patience and understanding: While Loki is already an incredible dog, he’s still learning to feel comfortable when left alone. His future family should be ready to help him through this adjustment with lots of love.
