Tyson Status: Available

Tyson is a mellow 6.5-year-old Blue male Dane with cropped ears. He was surrendered to Rescue by his previous owners because they could no longer afford to care for him. His foster mom says, “Tyson is a gentleman. He is very distinguished and loves to talk! He is happiest while snuggling and really enjoys taking a seat next to you on the couch. He has a very cool, laid back personality and loves to play with his foster sister.” Tyson is completely house trained and trustworthy with free roam. He is a great listener and knows his basic commands. Tyson is pretty set in his ways, so he will do best with a family that wants a big guy – but not a lot of work! Tyson adores attention and loves to curl up next to you on the couch, but would usually prefer to sit in your lap. He really enjoys hugs and loves to rest his head on your shoulder while riding in the car. Tyson gets along famously with his foster sister and the cat in the house. He also enjoys going outside and lying in the grass to watch the neighborhood children play. He is generally quiet and laid back, but is always up for a game of tug-o-war. He would love a home that would take him on a walk around the neighborhood every day. His foster mom adds, “I love how playful this guy can be! Tyson is just a big lover that wants your attention all of the time. He is happy with a pat on the head but ecstatic with a big hug and a cuddle!” Tyson needs to be on daily Rimadyl.

Abby Status: Available

Abby is a mellow 5-year-old female harlequin Dane with natural ears. She came to Rescue after being returned to the Humane Society because she was not getting along with the smaller dogs in her new home. In her foster home, Abby gets along well with dogs, although slow introductions are best and she does prefer the company of larger dogs. She also does well with cats and children. Abby is very much a ‘Velcro Dane.’ When she’s not lazing on the couch she likes to chase squirrels; given her very mellow nature, the squirrels always win! Her foster mom says, “I love that Abby really listens, and she will look you in the eye when you talk to her. It’s like she is taking all of it in and trying to understand what you are saying. If you talk to her, she will talk right back – showing a little attitude!” Abby will make an excellent addition to a family looking for a laid-back and loving Dane!

Harley Status: Pending adoption

Harley is a muscular 6-year-old male merlequin Dane with natural ears and striking blue eyes. He came to Rescue after being kept outdoors by owners in Arizona who had no time to care for him. Because Harley lived outside his whole life, he did not learn any boundaries or expectations, so his foster family is teaching him what indoor living and love are all about. Harley is now fully house trained, but he is still stubborn! He is calm and quiet, and he ambles around the house investigating when he’s not sleeping in his kennel, which he considers a fine place for naps. RMGRI was told that Harley was attacked by a litter mate when he was a puppy, and has some initial wariness to strange dogs as a result, but he has settled in with his three foster Dane brothers and sister quite well and shows no aggression toward adults or children. He looks to his humans to let him know what is expected and appreciates knowing that. It is suggested that Harley not go into a home with small dogs, however. Harley understands firm commands, rewarded with both praise and treats. He needs a home that will continue working with him and not let him get away with being a large lump on the floor if he doesn’t want to do something! His foster mom says, “I’m amazed that despite years of living outside with little human interaction, Harley is so well socialized and so sweet and calm. He is the perfect dog for someone who just wants a home companion.”

Hera Status: Available

Hera is a sweet 4-year-old female mantle Dane with cropped ears. She was surrendered to Rescue by previous owners that divorced and could no longer afford to care for her. Hera is very gentle and gets along well with dogs, cats and children (she lives with multiple dogs and a cat in her foster home and has regular contact with her foster mom’s 2-year-old grandchild – whom she has already discovered is an excellent source of fallen food!). Hera needs some special attention right now (and maybe forever) for her allergy issues. She must war doggles (yes, doggie goggles) and booties on her feet when she goes outside. She is currently taking benedryl twice a day and having her ears washed daily. She also requires a low-fat high quality food. Hera knows her basic commands and is a typical ‘Velcro Dane’ who follows her humans from room to room. She is completely trustworthy with free roam and rides very well in the car. Despite her "special needs", Hera will make a loyal and loving addition to one lucky family looking for a low-maintenance Dane to add to their home.

Deedlit Status: Available

Deedlit is a charismatic 6-year-old female Dane with cropped ears. She was surrendered to Rescue after jumping out a window due to her intense fear of thunder. Her foster mom says, “Deedlit is instant love! She’s a gentle and warm Dane. She’s slender with cropped ears and a soft nose that nudges you to tell you what she wants.” Deedlit knows all of her basic commands and is fully house trained. This social girl is curious off leash and, although she’s not very big on playing with other dogs, she likes to greet the other dogs she meets. Deedlit should not be around cats as she likes to chase them. Deedlit requires special attention during thunderstorms as she is terrified of thunder and, if left alone during a thunder storm, will try to jump out the window. If she’s with you during a thunder storm, she will not leave your side and will want your arm over her when she sleeps. Deedlit loves rolling on her back in the grass and going for walks, but she doesn’t pull on the leash or bolt – except to chase those kitties! Deedlit also loves blankets and will smoosh hers around until it’s comfortable. Her foster mom adds, “My daughter fell asleep on the couch and Deedlit kept trying to steal her blanket! I love everything about Deedlit, she is truly the perfect example of a dignified, older Dane.”

Hank Status: Profile out

Hank is a gorgeous 4-year-old male fawn Dane with cropped ears. He is a beautiful color with dark gold and soft cream shading in some areas. We don’t know a lot about his past, but he spent most of his young life in a kennel and suffered from extremely poor nutrition. Hank is house and crate trained, and is working on honing his basic commands. His foster mom says, “Hank is a sweetheart that is very lovely and has to be around you at all times. He's calm and doesn't know how to play yet, but he is starting to become interested in stuffed animals. Hank is adorable.” Hank is just beginning to understand what being a dog is all about – and he has discovered the joy of wagging his tail! Hank likes being inside and doesn't seem to want to exercise much. Hank also seems to enjoy being in the car and will lie down quietly in the back. He's a very quiet dog that rarely barks, whines or 'talks.’ Hank isn't a huge fan of other dogs or cats and would prefer to be left alone to love on his humans. Hank seems to love everyone equally and will gladly walk up to a stranger and rest his head in their hands. He's calm around strangers and new comers to your house. This sweet boy will make a loyal addition to a special family that can give him all the love, attention and support he so deserves.

Francina Status: Available

Francina is a loving and sweet 2-year-old female harlequin Dane with natural ears. She came to Rescue after being found wandering as a stray south of Wichita, Kansas (we suspect she was used for breeding purposes). Francina was a little unsure the first time she was invited into the house, but has since decided that being an indoor dog is a pretty good deal! She is house trained but does not yet know her basic commands, so her foster family is working on her commands and leash manners. Her foster mom says, “For not knowing her commands, Francina has learned quickly. She watched her foster sister ‘sit’ in order to get dinner, and decided that if sitting brings food maybe she could use the technique for other things. So her new ‘thing’ is to sit in front of the person she wants to receive love from!” Francina is a very laid back Dane who doesn’t mind lazing on her dog bed or looking forward to meal time. She gets along well with dogs, cats, and people of all ages, and enjoys going for rides in the car. Her foster mom adds, “Francina is a gentle sweetheart who will win your heart before you know it! She will be a very loving companion.”

Hank Status: Available

Hank is a most beautiful 1-year-old male brindle Dane/Boxer mix. He came to Rescue after being picked up as a stray and saved from the city pound. I can’t say enough good things about Hank. He is so grateful to have a human and/ or family of his own that he can’t get close enough. He is a lover who lies across the laps of children and loves it when they climb on him as well. Everyone that meets Hank says “He will make a great dog for some lucky family.” He is excellent with children, cats and dogs of all sizes. He is fully house and crate trained, has great house manners and is non-aggressive. Hank is very smart and a very quick learner, as well as very eager to please. He is great for those of you who like to have a jogging companion. He never strays too far when he is off leash-in fact if he loses sight of you for a second he comes running back with a worried look on his face! Hank is so happy and full of life that watching him play makes everyone smile from ear to ear. It is especially entertaining to watch him bound at full speed through very tall grass. In the evenings he is content to sit next to his humans on the couch. He is a great snuggler and sleeps through the night without bothering to be let outside. His foster mom adds, “It feels so good having this precious, soft, baby come lay his head on my lap when I’m working on the computer. Hank is the dog most people are looking for when they choose a Dane; friendly, easy going, and full of personality with one nice exception, he’s only about 65lbs!” Adopt Hank with confidence, why take a chance on a puppy when you can have a proven gem like him?

Hope (white) Status: Available
Hope is a precious 7-month old female Dane with natural ears. She came to RMGDRI after being rescued by a kind woman in Missouri who rescued her from a bad breeding situation. Her name is synonymous with her situation, as she is both deaf and blind. But don’t let her disabilities fool you, Hope is all puppy and is ready to play! Her foster mom says, “Hope is a joy to have in the house. She’s very sweet, loves attention and craves touch. When she does actually settle down, she loves to cuddle up on the couch, floor or wherever she can be, touching me in some way. There’s not a mean bone in her body. Even the vet techs commented on how good it was that she was so accepting of new people and new situations, as many dogs in her situation would be fearful and possibly aggressive. But not Hope. Hope learns the layout of her surroundings quickly and moves with grace, rarely running into or knocking things over. She’s even known to get the zoomies from time to time! Hope is scent trained to go outside. A bag of rosemary with a bell hung on the knob tells her where to ask to go outside. Two taps on her hips to tell her to sit and, once sitting, two taps between her shoulders means lay down. Hope does well with treats, and her nose works extraordinarily well, so there’s no need to let her know when it’s feeding time. She’s a master at finding that rogue piece of kibble! A typical puppy, Hope loves to chew, so a good-flavored bone keeps her busy. Her foster family is working on her leash and stair walking. Her foster mom adds, “Hope is such a gentle soul. There’s such an innocence about her. She’s a wonderful dog, and is a being to learn from. She loves her humans and loves to be happy!”

Jupiter Status: Profile out

Jupiter is a stunning 3.5-year-old harlequin male Dane with natural ears. He came back to Rescue after being previously adopted last fall by an owner who was not able to care for him. His foster mom says, “Jupiter is a very affectionate, loyal dog who feels a tremendous sense of responsibility toward his family. With the proper handling, you could not ask for a better companion or protector. He needs a confident, experienced owner who understands the importance of demonstrating leadership and who will love him enough to not allow him to call the shots himself.” Jupiter is fully house trained and trustworthy with free roam. He thrives with a daily walk or hike and is a gentleman on leash, very rarely needing correction. He gets along well with other dogs of all sizes and temperaments and is fine with cats. Jupiter has been diagnosed with cataracts, but this does not slow him down in the least. His foster mom adds, “What I love about Jupiter is that while he is not what most people would call an ‘easy dog,’ all he needs is a proper relationship with his humans to bring out the very best in him. Treat him the way a dog should be treated, and I think he would gleefully walk through fire for you. I also love his sense of dignity and the fact that he isn’t the type of dog that can be bribed into accepting you or doing what you ask - you have to earn it with him. And once he’s finally decided you’re OK and he asks for a belly rub, the feeling is just priceless!”

He enjoys meeting dogs, cats and people (he can behave cautiously around men in uniform). Boston enjoys wrestling with his foster sister and loves a good game of chase when his foster brother is fetching a ball. He takes nightly walks and is very well behaved on a gentle leader. His foster mom adds, “Boston is a lover and just loves to be with you … He’s very trustworthy and does great with free roam.” Boston will make a loyal and loving addition to an active family with lots of love to give!

Duchess Status: Profile out

Duchess is a calm 6-year-old female fawn Dane with natural ears. She came to Rescue after her previous owners lost their home and surrendered her to The Humane Society. Duchess is a gentle, sensible, easy-going girl who gets along with dogs of all sizes. She is proving to be very good with kids of all ages, as well, and likes to supervise their activities. If the kids get too loud or rambunctious, she retreats to a nearby corner and curls up for a nap. Her foster mom says, “One thing we appreciate about Duchess is that if a stranger comes to the door, the first thing she does is get between the kids and the doorway until she has a chance to size up the newcomer. She is not aggressive and does not bark unnecessarily, but she calmly scopes out the situation before giving her seal of approval (aka the “Duchess Test”). She seems to be a very good judge of character.” Duchess is quite affectionate with people she knows well, and will make sure she is available for any petting or treats that may be available without getting underfoot. Duchess is very cuddly and would love a family who realizes the importance of ear rubs and scrtichy-scratches! She is housetrained and trustworthy with free roam. While in foster care, her temporary family is working on fine-tuning her leash skills and furthering her obedience training. Her foster mom adds, “We love the fact that Duchess is so easy-going, and the fact that she’s very low-key, sensible and eager to please makes her an absolute pleasure to be around.”

Sophie Status: Profile out

Sophie is a happy 1-year-old female black Dane with natural ears. She was surrendered to Rescue after her family in Longmont, Colorado was no longer able to care for her. Her foster mom says, “Sophie is eager to please her humans and is quick to learn whatever you’re trying to teach her – especially if there is a treat involved. She is very loving and gives great hugs with her head. She is always so very happy!” Sophie is fully house trained and knows her basic commands. She is a very fast learner and loves to do what makes her humans happy. We suspect that because her original owner left her outside most of the time, she has anxiety and worries about this happening to her again. She gets along well with other dogs (preferring larger dogs), and she seems to have no opinion of cats – avoiding her foster family’s cat completely. Sophie loves to sleep with her humans on the bed, but will curl up in the smallest ball possible at the bottom of the bed unless you call her up by you. She was starved and underfed most of her young life, and as a result, has some food aggression issues and is best fed alone. Sophie is trustworthy with free roam and rarely counter-surfs. She has not exhibited any destructive or possessive traits around toys or furniture. She likes to sit on the couch or chair like a person, and she loves to play with her foster family’s Dane and chew on bones! When she gets excited about something she will literally spring up in the air off of all fours at once! Sophie is a very fun and loving Dane who will make an excellent addition the right lucky family.

Layla Status: Profile out

Layla is a beautiful 6-year-old female merle Dane with cropped ears. She was surrendered to Rescue after her previous owner’s other Danes demonstrated aggression toward her, and he felt it best she not be subjected to the aggressive behavior. Layla is both house and crate trained, and she knows all of her basic commands. Her foster mom says, “Layla is a big loveable baby with a heart of gold. She loves going on long walks and does well on a leash, but prefers the smaller neighborhoods where there are not as many cars. She does well with other dogs as long as there are proper introductions made.” Layla likes playing tug-o-war with her foster pug sibling (although there is not much tugging on the pug’s end!). Layla is under the distinct impression that she is a small dog and loves to climb in your lap to cuddle. She enjoys riding in the car and will put her head out the back window. She also loves music and will sing along with you! Layla likes playing in the back yard and in the mornings and evenings will hold conversations with all the neighbor dogs. She loves rolling in the grass and is quite an accomplished sunbather. She does not like fly swatters and will try to pull them out of your hand if you are holding one. Her foster mom says that Layla is very well mannered and well behaved – she also has a gigantic personality. She adds, “Layla definitely lives up to the breed’s name, she is a GREAT Dane!”

His foster mom says, “I love how fearless Grim was when he first came to us. Everything was greeted with a curious expression and a wagging tail. When he came in the house the first time and met our two-year-old grandson, he walked right up to him and gave him a big lick! Our grandson gave him a big hug right back and they have been fast friends ever since.” Grim is house and crate trained, and he knows all of his basic commands. He is a fast learner and a very big lover and cuddler. He craves a lot of loving attention from his humans. Hope is a gorgeous 7-month old, black Dane/Lab mix with natural ears. She came to Rescue after being found as a stray with her mother. Her foster mom says, “I love that Hope is still a puppy and is all puppy a lot of the time, but is also so mellow. It is as if she is two dogs in one. She has two completely different sides. She is so perfect.” Hope is fully house and crate trained, and is quickly picking up on basic commands. She is a fast learner, especially when treats are involved! Hope is also a huge lover. She is very independent, but also loves it when foster mom is around. Her dog door is her favorite thing in the world. Hope loves playing with her toys and wrestling with her foster sister. She also likes to carry stuffed animals around the house. Hope is full of energy and needs to be played with and exercised on a daily basis. She currently has an intense fear of leashes, but her foster family is working on overcoming those issues. Once she gets going on a walk, she does well and never pulls.
